Warrior women's tennis completes NSIC regular season with victory over Huskies

With win over SCSU, Winona State has won six straight

Box Score Sartell, Minn. - The Winona State University women's tennis team put an exclamation point on their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) regular season schedule, sweeping all matches against St. Cloud State University in a 5-2 win over the Huskies. 

With the victory, the Warriors wrap up their northern road trip with a pair of NSIC wins and return to Winona with a 10-3 overall record and 9-2 conference mark.   

The doubles matches gave the indication that Winona State was firing on all cylinders on the occasion, as the Warriors took all three matches from the Huskies. 

The Winona State tandem of Beth Murman and Audrey Delich earned a tough 7-5 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Rachel Kelly and Rina Niehoff won by a 6-2 scoreline in No. 2 doubles play. Faith Young and Sara Anderson also won at No. 3 doubles by a 6-2 margin.

In singles play, Rachel Kelly began the winning ways for WSU, defeating SCSU's Samantha Fitzpatrick at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.  Brooke Jorgensen quickly followed with a dispatching of Husky Emma Brunkow by a 6-0, 6-1 scoreline in No. 5 singles. 

Winona State's Sara Anderson defeated Ellen Baranczyk, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 6 singles and Warrior Beth Murman beat Hina Goldsmith at No. 1 singles for the fifth WSU win.  

In No. 3 singles, Rina Niehoff battled but fell to SCSU's Jill Kedrowski, 2-6, 6-4, 4-10 and WSU's Audrey Delich was dealt a setback by Shanna Kinny at No. 4 singles, 7-6, 6-1.

The Warriors will conclude the 2021 regular season with a home match against Luther College, scheduled for Friday, April 16 at the Winona Tennis Center.
