LAKE CITY, Minn. - The Winona State University men's and women's golf teams continue play today in the Watkins Invitational tournament held at Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.
After the first day of competition, both Winona State teams sit atop the team leaderboard after carding impressive rounds.
The Winona State women's team turned in a 310 total team score after play on Monday, with
Carly Moon also in first individually. Moon's 70 first round score was four better than the next competitor, Jaden Schweinefus of Upper Iowa, and one of five Warrior scores in the top ten. WSU's
Ellie Behring shot a 77, good for third place, just ahead of teammate
Ally Loiselle with a 79.
Marah Rothgarn is tied for fifth with an 80, while fellow Warrior
Rachel Henderson is in a three-way tie for 10th with a 83.
In terms of team play, Winona State leads second-place Upper Iowa (318) by eight strokes, while Minot State is in third at 335. The Winona State second team is in fourth at 341, followed by the University of Sioux Falls (342) and Missouri Western State (343).

The WSU men's team was ten strokes better than their closest competition, as the Warriors' 288 leads second-place Washburn (298) and Missouri Western (299) as day two unfolds. Upper Iowa is fourth at 302, just ahead of Minnesota Crookston at 306 and in fifth place. Full details, including standings for all 13 squads, are available

Individually, Dawson Wills of Washburn University leads the field, firing a 69 - three under par - in day one. Winona State claims the second and third spots, with
Brady Holland (70) and
Abraham Elmore (71) within striking distance of first place.
Gabe Goodman is in a tie for fifth at 73, while
Matt Turner is tied for 13th with a 75.
The Watkins Invitational is a two-day 36 hole tournament held at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City. This is the sixth edition of the tournament and the Winona State men's team are the defending champions. The 2021 competition year marks the first time for women's programs to play in the Watkins Invitational. The highly competitive fields are comprised of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).
