ST. PAUL - The Winona State University gymnastics team earned a runner-up finish at Hamline University on Friday evening, collecting a score of 178.750 in the head coaching debut of
Stephanie Geislinger.
Geslinger, a former All-America for the Warriors, saw
Izzy Kropiwiec and
Kaitlyn West take second and third place, respectively, in the all-around as Winona State faced off with the host Pipers and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Kropiwiec earned a composite score of 36.225 while West was at 35.325.
The meet marked the first multi-team competition in which WSU has taken part since the 2019-20 campaign and is the highest Warrior finish in such a format since Winona State took second in a triangular meet on Feb. 2, 2020, against Hamline and the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Last season, all Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) competitions were dual meet formats.
The Titans won the event Friday with a team score of 185.650, while Hamline was third at 174.775. UWO's Emily Buffington took the all-around title with a score of 37.850.
For Winona State,
Kennedy O'Connor earned a runner-up finish in the vault with a score of 9.450, while Kropiwiec's score of 9.600 in the floor exercise was good for second place.
Breanna Ho had a fifth-place finish in the uneven parallel bars at 9.175, the best Warrior mark in that event.
The Warriors will make their home debut on Friday, January 21, where they are set to host Hamline University; the date also marks "Smile On" alumni night for Winona State. The competition will begin at 6 pm in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
