WINONA, Minn. - Competing in their first home triangular meet in over two years, the Winona State University gymnastics team honored their seniors and Warrior gymnastics families as WSU hosted the University of Wisconsin Stout and the University of Wisconsin Whitewater on Sunday, Jan. 30 in McCown Gymnasium.
Winning the meet with a team score of 190.025, the UW - Whitewater Warhawks were paced by Emily North who earned first place in the all-around competition, scoring a 38.425. The University of Wisconsin Stout finished second as a team, with a total score of 188.025. WSU finished third among the three teams with a score of 183.025.
The host Warriors had two gymnasts entered in the all around competition, with
Kaitlyn West scoring a 36.375 and
Bryce Stoltz a 36.175. On the vault,
Kennedy O'Connor was the top Winona State finisher, scoring a 9.700, good for third place overall in the competition. On the bars,
Allison Crescimanno led the Warrior way with a total of 9.125. The beam saw Winona State's
Kaitlyn West capture the top WSU score, earning a 9.325 in the event. In the floor routine,
Izzy Kropiwiec scored a 9.750, the highest Warrior score on the day.
At the conclusion of the meet, Winona State recognized current senior gymnasts
Kaitlyn West,
Katie Curtis,
Hailey Bryant,
Hannah Matuszak,
Gabrielle Johnson and
Allison Crescimanno, all of whom are in their final season of eligibility for the Warriors. In addition, WSU honored
Sarah Fortuna and
Mackenzie Velarde in their roles as managers with the program.
Winona State is next in action when they travel to St. Peter, Minn. for a dual meet against Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday, Feb. 4. The dual meet against the Gusties will start at 6pm. The next home event for the Warriors will occur on Thursday, Feb. 10, when they host the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh in a dual meet. The Warriors and Titans will start at 6 pm in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
