WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University volleyball team opens up the 2022 Warrior Homecoming celebration with a split weekend, playing on the road at Minnesota State, Mankato on Thursday, Oct. 20 and returning home to McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court for a homecoming matchup against nationally-ranked Concordia, St. Paul on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.
The Warriors and Mavericks will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the Taylor Center while Saturday's home match against the Golden Bears will begin at 5 p.m.
Winona State currently has an 11-9 overall record and 7-6 NSIC slate. The Warriors bring a two-match winning streak into the NSIC weekend, and are in a three-way tie for eighth place in the NSIC standings, with Northern State and Augustana owning identical league records as the Warriors.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES
- WSU is looking to extend a current two-match NSIC winning streak.
- Winona State has won three in a row against Minnesota State, Mankato and taken five of the last six matchups.
- Last fall, Winona State made program history by beating Concordia St. Paul twice in the same season; 3-1 away on Oct. 5, and 3-1 at home on Oct. 30.
- Madison Larson leads WSU with a 3.55 kills/set mark, and teammate Sidney Paulson is a close second in the squad at 3.39.
- Casey Volkmann leads the Warriors in digs/set at 4.20 and Mikenna Joerger averages 1.19 blocks/set.
- WSU has seven regular season matches remaining to secure a NSIC postseason seat. The top eight teams advance to the NSIC Volleyball Tournament.
- Head coach Joe Getzin has earned a record of 354-328 over 24 seasons.
Minnesota State, Mankato STORYLINES
- Minnesota State, Mankato is 6-15 overall and 5-8 in the NSIC.
- The Mavericks lost 3-1 to Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State last weekend.
- MSU-Mankato's last win came on Saturday, Oct. 8 in a 3-0 sweep of Bemidji State.
- The Mavericks are 2-5 at home in the Taylor Center.
- Toryn Richards leads the Mavericks with a 2.30 kills/set average.
- Ellie Kline is the top Maverick in digs/set at 3.33.
- Corey Phelps was named head coach of the Minnesota State women's volleyball program in June of 2021.
Concordia, St. Paul STORYLINES
- The Golden Bears at 19-2 overall, 12-1 in NSIC play and ranked No. 3 in the country.
- Bemidji State will play at Upper Iowa Friday before playing at Winona State on Saturday.
- CSP defeated both Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State, both nationally-ranked programs, last weekend.
- Offensively, the Golden Bears are led by Jasmine Mulvihill, at 4.40 kills/set
- On defense, Ellie Sieling has a 3.27 digs/set average.
- Brady Starkey is entering his 20th year as head coach of Concordia volleyball in 2022.
WARRIOR NOTABLES
- Winona State hit .292 in a comeback win against Bemidji State last Saturday.
- WSU has a 3-2 record vs. CSP since 2019, one of the top NSIC marks against the Golden Bears.
- The NSIC has five teams in the AVCA Top 10 this week, including No. 1 Wayne State College.
