NSIC Weekend : Volleyball

WAYNE, Neb. - The Winona State University volleyball team heads west for a key NSIC Weekend, playing on the road at No. 3 Wayne State College on Friday, Oct. 28 and then competes at Augustana University in Sioux Falls on Saturday, Oct. 29. 

The Warriors and Wildcats will start at 6 p.m. on Friday while Saturday's contest against the Augustana will begin at 2 p.m.

Winona State currently has an 12-11 overall record and 8-8 NSIC slate. The Warriors have gone 3-2 over their last five contests and sit tied for eighth with Augustana and Upper Iowa in the eight spot of the NSIC standings.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES
  • WSU is 12-11 overall, 8-8 in league play. 
  • Winona State has gone 3-2 over their last five matches. 
  • The Warriors are 1-1 in their last two meetings with the Wildcats, including a 3-2 win at Wayne in 2021. 
  • Madison Larson leads WSU with a 3.36 kills/set mark, and teammate Sidney Paulson is a close second in the squad at 3.33.
  • Casey Volkmann leads the Warriors in digs/set at 4.30 and Mikenna Joerger averages 1.15 blocks/set.
  • WSU has four regular season matches remaining to secure a NSIC postseason seat. The top eight teams advance to the NSIC Volleyball Tournament. 
  • Heading into the weekend, Winona State is tied for eighth with two other 8-8 teams; Augustana and Upper Iowa.

  • Wayne State College is ranked No. 3 in the county and has a 25-1 record entering the weekend. 
  • The Wildcats are 15-1 in NSIC play and atop the league standings.
  • Wayne State suffered their first and only loss recently, Oct. 22 at #5 Southwest Minnesota State
  • Offensively, Wayne State is led by Taya Beller at 3.94 kills/set and Kelsie Cada 3.60 kills/set.
  • Maggie Brahmer has accumulated 104.0 total blocks on the year for WSC.
  • Wayne State played NCAA Division I program Kansas State in a pre-season exhibition, losing 3-2.
  • Scott Kneifl enters his 18th season as head coach at Wayne State College.

Augustana STORYLINES
  • The Vikings are 16-8 overall, 8-8 in NSIC play.
  • Upper Iowa will play at Augustana Friday before the Vikings host Winona State on Saturday. 
  • The Vikiings lost to Sioux Falls and Wayne State by 3-0 scoreline last weekend. 
  • Offensively, the Vikings are led by Maddy Guetter at 3.29 kills/set. 
  • On defense, Ellie Sieling has 78 blocks on the year while Erika Bute has racked up 440 digs
  • Jennifer Jacobs is in her sixth season as the Vikings' head coach

WARRIOR NOTABLES
