QUINCY, Ill. – The Winona State University women's basketball team defeated McKendree University, 64-50, behind a double-double performance from
Alex Dornfeld.
The Warriors used big first and fourth quarters to secure a double-digit victory over McKendree and improve to 4-0 on the season.
Winona State opened the game with strong defense, holding the Bearcats to just eight first-quarter points, and jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the opening frame. McKendree fought back in the second, but WSU held a 28-25 advantage at the half.
The Warriors shot an astounding 69.6% (16-23) from the field in the second half, including going 4-6 from deep to control the game and run away with a 14-point victory. WSU outscored McKendree 20-11 in the fourth quarter to seal the deal.
Dornfeld led all players with 18 points and 10 rebounds, picking up her second straight double-double.
Caitlin Riley added 15 points for WSU, knocking down three 3-pointers on 6-10 shooting.
Ava Sergio was the third Warrior to score in double figures, knocking down six of eight shots to score 13 points.

Winona State outscored McKendree in the paint by 12 points and the Warriors were more opportunistic on the offensive end, shooting 50.9% from the floor while the Bearcats shot 33.3%
WSU will look to open the season 5-0 tomorrow, as they take on Quincy University at 3pm.
