Men's Cross Country Joey Mueller, Athletic Communications

Johnstone and Metcalf lead WSU at NSIC Championships

WAYNE, Neb. – Mitchell Johnstone and Andrew Metcalf each ran top-50 performances to lead Winona State at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men's Cross Country Championships today, Nov. 5.

The Warriors finished in 10th place out of the 14 NSIC teams competing. Augustana University earned team champion honors after having five runners place in the top six individually.

Johnstone led WSU with a time of 26:43.13 to finish 42nd. Teammate Andrew Metcalf was just a step behind as he ran a time of 26:43.37 in the 8,000-meter race.

Mitchell Buerkle was not too far behind, as he finished 54th with a time of 27:07.33. Connor Hallaway finished one spot back of Buerkle and ran the race in 27:09.49.

Wyatt Taylor ran the course in 27:19.04 and Tyler Merrell ran to a time of 28:02.71. Brady Omtvedt rounded out the Warrior runners with a time of 28:25.82.

Next up for Winona State will be the NCAA Division II Cross Country Regional Championships, held on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Joplin, Mo.
