WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University baseball team will host Minnesota State University, Mankato today, April 15 in a nine-inning contest set to start at 3:00 p.m. in the cozy confines of Loughrey Field.
Originally scheduled to be a doubleheader on Friday, Winona State and Minnesota State will play one game today with a doubleheader set for Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
The two teams last faced off in a three-game series on May 7-8, in which the Mavericks edged the Warriors, winning two out of three. Today, Winona State will be looking to start off in similar fashion as they did last year, capturing the opening game of the series in 2021 by a 3-1 scoreline. In that contest, Winona State's
Cameron Kramer threw a two-hit standout performance against MSU, striking out four in the seven inning game, while walking only one.
Winona State (9-14, 7-5 NSIC) is coming off a sweep of Bemidji State, beating the Beavers 9-4 and 6-2 on Wednesday. In both games, WSU battled back for the victory with Justin Firpo earning the win in game one and Caleb Strack taking the second game on the hill for WSU. Austin Beyer belted a home run in game one versus BSU and Carter Brinkman collected four hits on the day as well.
The Mavericks (22-5, 15-3 NSIC) are coming off a two-game sweep of Minnesota Crookston, winning at home against the Golden Eagles, 7-2 and 11-1.
