Warrior Game Day : Softball

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University softball team will host St. Cloud State University today, Saturday April 16, in a NSIC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Maynard R. Johnson Field in Winona. The twin bill is the back half of a key NSIC weekend for the Warriors who split with Minnesota Duluth yesterday.

Originally scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.,  the WSU - SCSU contests this afternoon will start one hour later to take advantage of warming temperatures.

Yesterday, the Warriors split a doubleheader with the UMD Bulldogs,  winning game one 3-1 but losing the nightcap, 10-7.  In the opener versus Minnesota Duluth, Liz Pautz threw a three-hit complete game effort against the Bulldogs, racking up her 15th win, tied for second-most in the NSIC. In the second game, UMD dealt the Warriors a tough second inning, scoring six runs to open up the game.  WSU battled back to draw within two runs at 8-6, but the visitors pulled away with two more runs, scoring once in the fourth and again in the sixth. Marissa Mullen hit a three-run home run to highlight the Warrior attack.

St. Cloud State arrives in Winona with a 25-12 overall mark and 13-3 NSIC record. The Huskies are coming off a pair of wins over Upper Iowa yesterday, winning 11-6 and 14-13 in Fayette. Since 2014, Winona State owns a 15-3 mark over SCSU.
