Winona State volleyball earns AVCA Team Academic award

2022 marks 16th consecutive time team has been tabbed

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Winona State University women's volleyball program, one of the top programs in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 2021-22 Team Academic Award, as presented by the AVCA and the United States Marine Corps (USMC). 

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.Winona State has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award in each of Joe Getzin's eight seasons as the head coach of the Warriors. The 2021 WSU team had one of the most successful seasons on the court in the history of Winona State volleyball, finishing as runner up in the NSIC Tournament and earning a berth to the 2021 NCAA Division II National Tournament. 

With the 2021-22 honor, the Warriors have claimed the award 16 consecutive years and have been tabbed 19 times overall as a program.  The 1996-97 Winona State squad earned the first AVCA team honor and the current annual streak began with the 2006-07 Warrior team.
