MINOT, N.D. – The Winona State University women's basketball team saw a decisive fourth quarter cause their NSIC road contest at Minot State to finish unfavorably, with the Beavers pulling away late to deal the Warriors a 66-58 setback.
Caitlin Riley scored 11 points and
Lauren Fech added 10 to the Warrior effort, but Minot State broke a 51-51 tie with just over five minutes to play with a 9-2 to deal WSU their third-straight loss. MSU outscored Winona State 24-12 in the fourth frame in a contest where the two teams were deadlocked 27-27 at the end of the first half.
As a team, Winona State was 24-of-59 (40.7%) from the floor and hit 8-of-22 (36.4%) three pointers. Winona State was awarded just five free throws in the game - converting twice - while the host Beavers were 12-of-18 (66.6%) from the charity stripe.
Offensively, Winona State saw the Warrior bench contribute 29 points overall, with
Lindsey Hahn and
Paige Peaslee scoring six points apiece. Turnovers hurt WSU, with Minot State forcing the Warriors into 17 giveaways and MSU held a rebounding edge at 39-33.
Minot State was led by Kennedy Harris with 20 points. Emma Mogen, Kate Head and Emily Srejma each had six rebounds for the home team.
With the loss, Winona State moves to 9-10 overall and 3-10 in the NSIC. WSU will look to salvage a split in their NSIC weekend at the University Mary on Saturday, Jan. 21. UMary and the Warriors will tip off at 5:30 p.m. in the McDowell Activity Center.
