Winona State competes at UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Winona State University gymnastics team competed on the road in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meet on Friday, Jan. 20, taking on the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.

The Warriors tallied a team score of 179.875, while the host Warhawks compiled 185.775 to take top team honors. 

In the vault, Kennedy O'Connor earned the highest score for Winona State, scoring a 9.600 good for third place.  Jessica Miley finished in fifth place and Izzy Kropiwiec sixth, with scores of 9.425 and 9.375, respectively. UW-Whitewater's Kara Welsh took first place at 9.675. 

On the bars, Ashley Roth was the top WSU competitor, scoring a 9.100. The Warhawks claimed the top four spots, with Elaine Copeland winning the event with a 9.525. 

Taryn Sellner won the beam event, earning a 9.525 to outpace UW-W's Richella Velarmino at 9.425. Winona State's Jessica Miley finished in the top five as well, with a score of 9.100. 

Camdyn McSweeney finished in a tie for third in the floor exercise, scoring a 9.350 on the night. Jessica Miley took fifth in the same event at 9.275; UWW's Faith Mylin took first on the floor with a score of 9.700.

In the all-around, Miley earned a score of 36.525 as the only student-athlete from either team to compete in all four events. 

Winona State enters a three-meet road swing that includes competing at NCAA Division I Northern Illinois on Jan. 29 and in a dual meet at UW-Stout on Friday, Feb. 3. Winona State will be at home in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court, on Friday, Feb. 10 when they host Gustavus Adolphus College at 6 p.m.
