DeKalb, Ill. - The Winona State University gymnastics team competed in a triangular meet hosted by NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University on Sunday, Jan. 29, in which the Warriors took on the host Huskies and the Illinois State University Redbirds.
Lining up against NCAA Division I competition for the second time this season - having also faced the University of Minnesota on Friday, Jan. 6 - WSU collected a team score of 184.700 to finish third in the event. NIU took top honors with a score of 195.500, while ISU came in second at 194.350.
In the vault, WSU's top finishers were
Izzy Kropiwiec and
Kennedy O'Connor, both of whom registered a score of 9.500. ISU's Alana Laster won the event with a score of 9.850.
On the bars, Brenna Ho and
Kayla Miller combined to lead Winona State with identical scores of 8.800. Natalie Hamp of Northern Illinois took first place with a score of 9.900.
In the beam competition, the Warriors were led by
Kendra Aitken, scoring a 9.350.
Taryn Sellner was the second-best WSU finisher with a 9.325. Northern Illinois' Alyssa Al-ashari took top honors with a score of 9.925.
In the floor exercise,
Camdyn McSweeney earned a top-10 finish with a score of 9.575.
Courtney Knutson and
Kennedy O'Connor tied with NIU's Alana Anderson for 11th with scores of 9.550. Nirel Bart-Williams of Illinois State won the floor with a mark of 9.925.
Jessica Miley competed in the all-around for Winona State, earning a score of 36.425 overall to finish fourth. ISU's Angelica Labat won the all-around with a score of 39.175.
Winona State is next in action on Feb. 3 when they return to WIAC competition at the University of Wisconsin Stout. The Warriors will take on the Blue Devils and Hamline University in a meet scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
