BISMARCK, N.D. -
Lindsay Cunningham cruised to her third consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) individual cross country title, outrunning a highly talented field with a first-place time of 19:28.7. With the Warrior win, Cunningham becomes the first competitor to win three consecutive NSIC women's cross country individual championships.
For the fourth time in four meets, Winona State's
Kaylee Beyer took runner up honors, finishing with a time of 20:17.9, crossing the finish line 20 seconds faster than Khot Juac from the University of Sioux Falls at 20:37.8. The tanden top times allowed Winona State to claim the NSIC team title as well, with WSU earning a winning point total of 38, while Augustana University took second as a team with 57 points.
Cunningham and Beyer have bested the competition in every race they have run this fall, with the Warrior duo claiming first and second at the Phoenix Open on Sep. 8, the Greeno Dirksen Invite on Sep. 16 and the Lewis University Crossover on Oct. 7. In Bismarck on Saturday, Winona State also saw a deep and strong Warrior roster rise to the occasion to claim the team title, just the second-ever for the WSU program. Winona State won the 2004 NSIC team championship.
Sophia Taarud,
McKenna Taylor and
Allison Kenefick all claimed top-15 finishes at the 2023 NSIC Championships. Taarud took ninth overall with a time of 21:16.0, just edging UMary's Andrijana Fundak at 21:16.3. Taylor's time of 21:21.9 was nearly three seconds faster than Augustana's Ashley Overgaauw, a key contribution to the WSU effort. Kenefick claimed a time of 21:25.4, coming in ahead of two Augustana competitors to finish 14th overall.
Kylie Anderson and
Rachel Hoffman rounded out the Warrior scoring, with Anderson coming in at 22:00.00 good for 24th overall and beating Augustana's Eleni Lovgren by just over three seconds. Hoffman secured a time of 22:30.00, giving head coach
John Hibshman and the Warriors a top-50 finish in the event.
Following Saturday's record-setting day for Cunningham and the Winona State women's program, WSU will now turn attention to the 2023 NCAA Division II Regional Championships. Winona State will run in the NCAA Division II regional at Joplin, Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 4.
