WSU HEAD CROSS COUNTRY COACH JOHN HIBSHMAN ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State head cross country coach John Hibshman has announced his retirement.
 
Hibshman, the reigning NSIC and NCAA DII Central Region Women's Coach of the Year, has served as the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach and Assistant Track & Field Coach at Winona State since 2020.
 
During his tenure, Hibshman led three Warrior teams to the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships, including a fifth-place finish in 2023. The Warriors won the NSIC Cross Country Championships in 2023 and 2025, along with the NCAA DII Central Regional Championship in 2023 and 2025.
 
Individually, Hibshman tutored four runners to All-America status in cross country: Lindsay Cunningham, Kaylee Beyer, Sophia Taarud, McKenna Taylor. Cunningham earned four individual national championships under Hibshman's coaching across cross country and track & field.
 
Recognized for his elevation of Winona State cross country, Hibshman was named the NSIC Cross Country Coach of the Year and the NCAA DII Central Region Coach of the Year in both 2023 and 2025 for women's cross country.
