Warrior Game Day: Men’s Basketball

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University men's basketball team looks to continue an undefeated start to the season with a contest against the University of Missouri - St. Louis at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 at home in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
 
Winona State (2-0, 0-0 NSIC) will face the University of Missouri – St. Louis at McCown Gymnasium for the first regular season home game of the year.
 
The matchup will be the first time the two teams have faced off in the history of the programs. Last season the University of Missouri – St. Louis reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, losing to eventual National Champion Nova Southeastern. Most recently, UMSL (1-1) is coming off an impressive win against #16 Bentley University 76-73.
 
WINONA STATE STORYLINES 
- WSU defeated Arkansas Monticello 62-46 to open up their season at the 2023 Central Region Challenge.
-WSU finished out the 2023 Central Region Challenge with a win against Southern Arkansas 68-62 to start the season 2-0
Connor Dillon was tabbed the WSU Player-to-Watch in the 2023-24 NSIC Coaches' Poll.
- Dillon delivered 24 points in 35 minutes in the win versus Southern Arkansas.
Connor Drew added 12 points to the Warrior effort against SAU.
- Winona State was the NCAA Division II National Champion in 2006 and 2008; WSU was runner up in 2007. 
- WSU had never faced off with Arkansas Monticello or Southern Arkansas in the NCAA DII era.
- The Warriors added two assistant coaches for the 2023-24 campaign; Devin Whitelow and Cole Rabedeaux are both in their 1st year on the Warrior sideline.
- Whitelow was the 2020-21 NSIC Don Olson Award honoree as a senior point guard for Winona State. 
- Rabedeaux was a standout player at UW-Eau Claire and had an assistant coaching stint with NCAA Division I University of Houston. 
- Head coach Todd Eisner is embarking on his 9th season with the Warriors and 26th overall as a college head coach. 
- Heading into the season, Eisner's all-time coaching record stands at 531-263 including a 115-97 Winona State ledger.
 
 Missouri St. Louis STORYLINES
- UMSL was picked 3rd in the 2023-24 GLVC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll. 
- The Tritons were 24-11 overall last year.
- Missouri - St. Louis was 11-9 in league action in 2022-23.
- UMSL lost in the GLVC championship game to McKendree 62-51 last season.
- The Tritons later beat McKendree in the Midwest Regional Tournament 62-60.
- UMSL played Nova Southeastern, the National Champion, in the Elite Eight, falling by a 82-75 scoreline. 
- Head coach Bob Sundvold is entering his 11th season with UMSL.
