SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Winona State University women's basketball team suffered from a cold-shooting night on the road, falling to host University of Sioux Falls 59-41 on Friday, Feb. 10.
The Warriors were within striking distance at the break, down just five points at 30-25, but the Cougars held Winona State to just four points in the third quarter to pull away for the win.
Winona State entered Friday's contest looking to snap a three-game skid, but it was USF that was able to end a losing streak on the night; Sioux Falls had dropped six straight prior to facing the Warriors.
Lauren Fech led Winona State in scoring with 10 points, while
Mattie Schimenz added eight points including a 4-of-4 effort at the foul line.
Alex Dornfeld hauled in seven rebound and added seven points.
As a team, WSU shot just 15-of-55 (27.3%) from the floor and were ice-cold from 3-point territory, hitting 3-of-23 (13.0%) from beyond the arc. Winona State hit 8-of-10 (80.0%) free throws, but were out-rebounded in the contest, 41-32.
The University of Sioux Falls was led by Riley Moreland with 16 points. Dallie Hoskinson had 13 rebounds to lead the Cougars, who move to 7-18 overall and 4-15 in the NSIC.
Winona State falls to 10-15 on the year, 4-15 in NSIC play. The Warriors will conclude the weekend road trip at Southwest Minnesota State University tomorrow with a 5:30 pm start against the Mustangs.
