MANKATO, Minn. - The Winona State University women's basketball team lost on the road at Minnesota State, 65-42 in their final away contest of the 2022-23 season.
Winona State led by one at the break, 26-25, but the host Mavericks pulled away in the second half for the victory. WSU enjoyed a strong start to the contest, hitting 8-of-12 (66.6%) in the first quarter but the hot streak faded as the game wore on; the Warriors were just 2-of-14 (14/2%) in the fourth quarter.
Lauren Fech led Winona State in scoring with 12 points, while
Ava Sergio added 10 to the Warrior effort.
Alex Dornfeld collected seven rebounds to lead WSU on the boards.
As a team, Winona State was 16-of-44 (36.4%) overall from the floor. The Warriors hit 4-of-14 3-pointers (28.6%) and connected on 6-of-9 (66.7%) free throws.
Winona State will close out the season on Senior Day, as the Warriors host Concordia, St. Paul on Saturday, Feb. 18. WSU and CSP will start at 3 p.m. in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
