WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University women's basketball team closed out the 2022-23 season with a victory on Senior Day against Concordia St. Paul, sending seniors
Shea Dechant and
Lauren Fech out with a Warrior win on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Winona State exploded for 42 first half points and had four Warriors reach double-digits in scoring as WSU avenged a 58-39 loss to CSP back on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Alex Dornfield collected her team-leading seventh double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and hauling in 11 rebounds.
Lauren Fech finished her Warrior career as the leading scorer in the game with 16 points; Fech hit double-digits in her final eight Winona State contests and concludes the season as the Warriors' top scorer with 330 total points.
Against CSP,
Caitlin Riley came off the bench to score 14 points on a 5-of-10 effort from the floor, including four three-pointers. Joining Riley in double-digits was
Ava Sergio with 12 points and six rebounds.
The Golden Bears did not have an answer for the balanced Winona State offense, as WSU enjoyed a 42-20 lead at the break. In the run of play, the Warriors held Concordia St. Paul to just 16-of-66 shooting from the floor, although CSP was a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line.
The hot start for Winona State saw the home side shoot 57% in the first half and hold a sizeable rebounding advantage in the game at 40-27.
As a team, Winona State was 27-of-52 (51.9%) from the floor and 12-of-21 (57.1%) from behind the 3-point line. WSU was 7-of-10 from the free throw line, led by
Ava Sergio who went 4-of-5.
CSP was led in scoring by Ally Gietzel with 17 points. Raegan Alexander was the top Golden Bear rebounder with six boards. Concordia St. Paul falls to 13-13 on the year, 10-12 in NSIC play.
With the win, Winona State concludes the 2022-23 season at 11-17 overall, 5-17 in NSIC action.
