Winona State celebrates Parent's Night, hosting UW-Oshkosh

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University gymnastics team competed in their second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) meet of the 2024 season on Friday, Jan. 19, taking on the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

WSU celebrated Parents Night in the home opener for the Warriors, as head coach Stephanie Geislinger and her squad took to the floor in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court. 

The Warriors tallied a team score of 183.500, good for runner-up honors, while the Titans compiled a 190.225 to take first place on the evening. 

Individually, leading the way for Winona State in the All-Around with a first-place finish was Bryce Stoltz, collecting a 35.975 across the vault, bars, beam and floor exercise. Jessica Miley took runner-up honors in the All-Around with a score of 35.550. 

On the Balance Beam, Kaylee Bateman earned the highest score for Winona State, scoring a 9.525 good for third place.  Taryn Sellner finished in fifth place for WSU, notching a 9.375. UW-Oshkosh claimed first place through Anna Zoromski (9.600) and second place with Liz Romano (9.575).

On the Uneven Parallel Bars, Bateman again was the top WSU competitor, scoring a 9.375, also good for third place. The Titans claimed the top two spots, with Kaylie Berens winning the event with a 9.600, and Titan teammate Reanna McGibboney claiming second at 9.500. 

The Titan's Reanna McGiggoney won the vault, earning a 9.775. Winona State's Madysen Diskerud and Izzy Kropiwiec both finished in the top five as well, tied with identical scores of 9.550. 

Jay Ratkowski of UW-Oshkosh was the top competitor in the Floor Exercise, taking first place with a score of 9.725.  Winona State was led by Taryn Sellner, who finished fourth with a 9.625. 

A crowd of nearly 350 fans took part in the dual-meet festivities, honoring the parents of the Winona State squad. 

Winona State looks ahead to their next competition against SEMO and Talladega College in a triangular meet in Cape Girardeaum, Mo. Winona State will then follow with two straight weekends at home in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court on Friday, Feb. 2 and Thursday, Feb. 8.
