WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University Warrriors defeated the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs 2-1 in their Sunday match up.
The Warriors went into the first half strong and ready to go. WSU was the first to get on the board with an unassisted goal by
Johanna Shubert after a few Mustangs got touches on the ball 15 minutes into the half. The SMSUÂ Mustangs were able to answer back to tie up the game 41 minutes into the half with a goal by Emma Dahnert. Winona State was able to get six shots off in the first half with those shots coming from
Jacey Sturek,
Madisson Watts, Shubert,
Kyleigh Jannisch, and
Chloe Turner.Â
Going into the second half the Warriors were determined to find the back of the net again. Winona State was able to find the back of the net off of 37 minutes into the second half off of a stellar pass by
Johanna Shubert for
Kyleigh Jannisch to head into the back of the net to put the Warriors up 2-1 to win the game. WSU was able to get five shots off in the second half by
Faith Quinn,
Sarah Strating, and Jannisch. The Warriors defense shut down the Mustangs only allowing two shots on goal with
Alyson Jumper only needing to collect the one save to secure the victory.Â
The Winona State University Warriors will be back at home on Friday, October 25 where they will play the University of Mary at 5 p.m. and again on Sunday, October 27 for senior day with kick off set for 12 p.m.Â
