ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Winona State University volleyball team drops a hard fought battle to the #2 St. Cloud State Huskies, 3-0.
The Warriors traveled up to St. Cloud to face the #2 Huskies battling hard in all three sets falling 25-21, 29-27, and 25-20.
Set One:
Right away in the first set, WSU jumped up 3-1 off of two SCSU errors and a kill by
Lydia Lange. After a few attacking errors by the Warriors, St. Cloud State took the lead 5-3, but Winona State was not going to back down. WSU kept cutting down the deficit throughout the whole set, keeping the Huskies to a four point lead thanks to Lange,
Jayda Berg, and
Kenna Kornely. The Warriors dropped the first set 25-21.
Set Two:
Winona State came into set two ready to redeem themselves, battling back and forth with SCSU until WSU took the early lead, 7-5. After trading on and off the lead with the Huskies, Winona State took the game into extra points, going up 27-26. But the Huskies were able to find the gaps for two kills and a service ace to take set two, 29-27.
Set Three:
The Warriors went into set three still battling, taking the early lead 2-0, but after a few errors on the Warriors and three service aces from St. Cloud, SCSU took the lead 8-2. Winona State continued to battle back, nearing the end of the set, head coach
Joe Getzin had an opportunity to challenge a play, which allowed the Warriors to make a run cutting the deficit 22-19.
Leah Mach was able help cut the lead to 23-20, but the Warriors were not able to pull ahead, falling in set three 25-20.

Kenna Kornely all had nine kills.
Gianna Vollrath lead the team at the net with five blocks.
Jaci Winchell lead the way with 24 assists.
Kylie Welch was everywhere on the court, collecting 15 digs.
The Winona State University Warriors will be back on the road, heading the Duluth to face the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in their final regular season game on Saturday, November 16 at 4pm.
