WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's volleyball team faced off against Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday, November 2 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match, with the Mavericks winning in four sets against the Warriors.
Stat Leaders:
Set one:
Mankato would jump out to an early 3-0 lead before a kill from
Gianna Vollrath would put the Warriors on the board. After trading points for a while the Mavericks would earn three straight points to make it a five point game. The Warriors would climb back and tie the match at 14-14 with a kill from
Gianna Vollrath again. Minnesota State would earn five sraight points which would eventually lead to Winona State dropping the set 25-22.
Set two:
Set two would see the Warriors earn an early 5-1Â lead with a service ace from
Kylie Welch, causing a Maverick timeout. MSU Mankato would not gain any traction throughout the set, with the Warriors taking set number two with a block from
Abigail Savatski and
Lydia Lange.
Set three:
The third set would see Minnesota State Mankato jump out to an early 5-1 lead. A
Kylie Welch service ace would bring the Warriors right back within a point to respond. WSU and MSU Mankato would then begin to trade points back and forth with each other until the Warriors would take their first lead of the match at 24-23. The Mavericks would respond, earning the final three points of the set, winning 26-24.
Set four:Â
Set four would be a closely contested match early on with the Mavericks taking a 13-9 lead before a
Joe Getzin timeout. Following the timeout by the Warriors Minnesota State would extend the lead to 17-11 before the Warriors would use their second timeout of the set. The Mavericks would use momentum and eventually take set number four and the match, 25-18.
Winona State (15-10, 8-6 NSIC) is next in action on Friday, November 8 where they face off against Bemidji State (&14, 2-11 NSIC) to start the final NSIC home weekend for the Warriors.
