WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University volleyball team is set to travel to Quincy, Illinois to compete in the Quincy University Hawk Invitational on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14.
The Warriors will have a tough road schedule facing off against four different teams in two days. WSU volleyball will face off against Malone University, Quincy University, Missouri S&T, and Maryville University.
Winona State Notes:
- Head Coach Joe Getzin enters his tenth season with the Warriors.
- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released their preseason poll, and WSU is receiving votes entering the 2024 campaign.
- The Warriors were selected sixth in the 2024 NSIC Preseason Poll.
- Leading the Warriors this season is seniors and graduate students Leah Mach, Kylie Welch, Lydia Lange, and Sidney Paulson
- Sidney Paulson was picked as the Warriors Preseason Player to Watch in the 2024 NSIC Coaches Poll.
- Through five games this season Sidney Paulson leads the Warriors in kills (55) with sophomore Kenna Kornely (44) next up for WSU.
- Kylie Welch leads the Warriors in digs and digs/set with 66 (4.71) on the year so far.
- Junior, Jaci Winchell leads the team in assists on the year (95).
- The Warriors competed in a similar event earlier this season facing off against four teams in three days at the Kansas City Classic.
Malone University Notes:
- Malone University holds a 2-2 record so far this season.
- Rafael Gonzalez enters his fourth season as the Pioneers head coach.
- Marissa Smith leads the Pioneers offensively with 40 kills on the year so far.
- Taking the lead in the assist category is Mallory Meinen.
- Macy McCauley averages 5.87 digs/set on the year so far.
Quincy University Notes:
- Quincy University holds a perfect 4-0 record to start the season.
- Mark Jones enters his sixth season as the head coach at Quincy University.
- Emma Wijnbergen has 77 kills to lead the Hawks.
- Elena Kasavica has 161 assists on the year, the rest of the team combined has 25.
- Susanna Beretti leads Quincy with 3.86 digs/set.
Missouri S&T Notes:
- Missouri S&T holds a 2-2 record so far in the 2024 season.
- Jacquie Cason enters her first season as head coach for the Miners.
- Alina Carrillo leads the Miners in kills (60).
- Elise Mehaffy has 90 assists on the year to lead Missouri S&T.
- Defensively for the Miners, Madison Smith had 20 blocks on the year so far.
Maryville University Notes:
- Maryville University holds a 1-3 record.
- Gretchen Moser enters her seventh year as the head coach of Maryville University
- Ella Brinkmann leads the Saints in kills (41).
- Lilly Stanton has 74 assists on the year.
- Taylor Hasbrook leads Maryville with 96 digs in the 2024 season.
