QUINCY, Ill. – The Winona State University volleyball team competed at the 2024 Quincy Hawk Invitational Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14. The Warriors went 3-1 facing off against four teams in two days.
In game one the Warriors took an early lead and never let up. Leading the Warriors in kills was graduate student
Lydia Lange and sophomore
Quinn Robak with seven kills apiece while junior
Jaci Winchell and sophomore
Ashlyn Steding led the team in assists with 17 apiece as well.
In game two the Warriors fought against a tough Quincy volleyball team with home court advantage. WSU battled Quincy University to five sets, but fell just short losing 3-2. WSU was lead by Sydney Paulson and
Jayda Berg with 13 kills each in the contest.
Abigail Savatski lead the team in blocks (3) and
Kylie Welch chipped in 12 digs. Quincy was led by Emma Wijnbergen with 32 kills in the contest.
The Warriors came back the next day with a chip on their shoulder. Starting the day facing off against Missouri S&T, WSU showed out in a big way taking the match 3-0. Winona State was led by graduate student
Lydia Lange and sophomore
Kenna Kornely with nine kills apiece.
Anna Hennessy chipped in 3 service aces and 14 digs in the contest.
Abigail Savatski led the Warriors again in blocks with six total in the match.
The last game of the Quincy Hawk Invitational was between WSU and Maryville University. The Warriors showed no signs of fatigue, winning the match 3-1. Maryville took the first set 25-16 and WSU banded together not giving up another set. Sydney Paulson led the Warriors with 17 kills with
Jayda Berg and
Lydia Lange chipping in ten each.
Jaci Winchell led the team in assists with 23, while
Kylie Welch led the team with 16 digs.
Winona State (6-3, 0-0 NSIC) is next in action on Thursday, September 19 at 6p.m. against the University of Minnesota Duluth (7-0, 0-0 NSIC) in McCown Gymnasium home of WNB Financial Court.
