Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Winona State University volleyball team traveled to St. Paul to face off against #9 Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, September 27 for their first NSIC weekend of the 2024 season. WSU battled valiantly against CSP, eventually falling in four sets.
Stat Leaders
Set one:
The Warriors would start the first set down 0-5, but quickly recover and tie the game at 8-8 with a
Kenna Kornely kill. The Warriors would battle back and fourth with Golden Bears, before CSP would go on a run to finish the first set, winning 18-25.
Set two:
The Warriors would see themselves in a similar situation starting set two down 1-7. Battling uphill the entire match the WSU would take their first lead of the set at 24-23 with a kill by
Abby Ongna and a
Jayda Berg kill would finish set two 25-23.
Set three:
WSU and CSP would battle early not seeing a lead of more than a single point before the Golden Bears took a 8-10 lead with a kill from Claudia Stahlke. The Warriors would go on a 5-1 run highlighted with a kill by
Gianna Vollrath and a block by
Jayda Berg and Vollrath. Concordia-St. Paul fought back after a timeout, taking the set 19-25.
Set four:
Gianna Vollrath would pick up right where she left off taking the first Warrior kill of the set.
Kenna Kornely and
Sidney Paulson would join the Warrior fun, earning a kill a piece as well, but CSP would earn seven unanswered points taking a 10-23 lead before a Mehlayna Straub kill finished the match 12-25.
Winona State (8-6, 1-2 NSIC) are next in action on Saturday, September 28 at 2pm where they face off against Minnesota State (9-1, 1-1 NSIC) inside the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn.
