WARRIORS FALL IN BATTLE AGAINST HUSKIES

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team started the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) weekend facing off against St. Cloud State University, losing 66-44.
 
With her scoring effort tonight, Olivia Gamoke surpassed the illustrious 1,000 career points, while also recording five rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
 
How it Happened:
 
St. Cloud State scored the first points of the contest with a layup from Paige Lambe, assisted by Alana Zarneke. The first quarter ended with a jump shot from Lambe bringing the score to SCSU 17, WSU 11.
 
The second quarter began with a three-pointer from St. Cloud State's Reagan Briggs. A pair of free throws from Emma Kilpatrick closed the scoring deficit late in the quarter. The first half came to a close with a tip-in layup from the Huskies' Kylan Gerads, bringing the score to SCSU 29, WSU 20.
 
St. Cloud State started the third quarter off hot, making their first few shot attempts to begin the half. The quarter ended with a three-pointer from SCSU's Jada Eggebrecht on an assist from Briggs, bringing the score to Huskies 52, Warriors 30.
 
Winona State scored the first points of the final quarter on a free throw from Kilpatrick. The Huskies would continue to increase the lead, shooting 6-12 (50%) from the field, a made free throw from Halle Vande Hey closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter. The score at the end of the contest was St. Cloud State 66, Winona State 41.
 
Individual Leaders:
  • Vivica Bretton and Hailey Markworth led the Warriors in scoring, each with six points.
  • Winona State had five players each record one assist.
  • Bretton and Avery Moeller led WSU in steals with two each.
  • Kristi Kottke led SCSU in scoring with 15 points on 7-9 (77.8%) shooting from the field and steals with four.
  • St. Cloud State had four players each record six rebounds. 
Team Comparison:
  • Winona State went 13-62 (21%) from the field, while St. Cloud State went 29-60 (48.3%).
  • The Huskies went 7-22 (31.8%) from the three-point line, while the Warriors went 4-26 (15.4%).
  • Winona State went 11-12 (91.7%) from the free throw line, while St. Cloud State went 1-2 (50%).
