WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University gymnastics team recorded their highest ever team vault score and notched top-five scores on the bars and team overall score in their annual "Smile On" Alumni Meet.
The Warriors collected a team score of 189.625 against the Warhawks of UWW, who scored 192.725 as a team.
Starting off with the vault,
Kennedy O'Connor took second place with a score of 9.725, which was just behind Brianna Balian who took first with a score of 9.750. With O'Connor's performance along with the rest of the gymnasts on vault, Winona State broke the all-time team vault score with a score of 48.125, previously at 47.875 at the 2023 WIAC Championship.
Kaylee Bateman and
Jessica Miley along with UWW's Paige Magel all tied for first place on bars all scoring a 9.650. WSU's team bars score made its way into the record book with a team score of 47.550 landing in fourth place, which this marks the first time the Warriors team bars score has made its way into the record book since 2017. Winona State's
Gabby Kraft earned herself first place on the floor with a score of 9.775. WSU's team score of 189.625 put the Warriors down in the record book at fourth in school history right behind their meet earlier this season at Eastern Michigan University, which they scored 189.450.
For WSU, they scored a team score of 48.125 on the vault, 47.550 on the bars, 46.150 on the beam, and 47.800 on the floor.
The Winona State University gymnastics team will be back at home for their last home meet of season on Friday, February 7 at 6 p.m. where they will face the Pipers from Hamline University where the Warriors will also celebrate their seniors.
