WINONA, Minn. – Winona State advances to 4-0 at home this season in a 24-14 victory over Concordia-St. Paul on Homecoming.
The Warriors gained 209 yards on the ground, including a career high 141 yards from
Jahmani Muhammad to lead the Warriors to victory.
How it Happened:
After a Golden Bears punt, the Warriors went eight plays for 73 yards, capped off by a
Jackson Flottmeyer touchdown pass to
Joe Sikma to put the Warriors up 7-0 with 6:47 left in the quarter. CSP had a touchdown taken off the board on the ensuing drive from a penalty that ended the drive in a punt.
In the second quarter, a 41-yard Kenny Steffens field goal was blocked by Winona State's
David Nies to keep the Warrior lead at 7-0 with 8:53 left in the first half. On the Warriors' last possession of the half, they moved the ball down to the CSP eight-yard line. The following 21-yard field goal attempt with nine seconds left was missed by the Warriors to keep the game at 7-0 going into the break.
A 10-play drive that saw
Jahmani Muhammad break off a 27-yard run down to the Golden Bears 13-yard line, ended in the Warriors
Evan Swanstrom knocking in a 22-yard field goal to extend the Warriors lead to 10-0 with 10:43 left in the quarter. The Golden Bears responded with a 24-yard touchdown rush from Joel Lacy to cut the deficit to 10-7 with 6:21 left in the quarter. WSU battled right back with an 11-play, 73-yard drive capped off with a one-yard TD plunge from fullback
Colton Geurink to put the Warriors back up 10 at 17-7.
Winona States' defense forced yet another stop to keep the Golden Bears stuck at seven points. A seven-yard rushing touchdown from Flottmeyer, gave the Warriors a 24-7 lead with 6:34 left in the contest. A crucial 4th-down sack by
Ethan Doucette gave Winona State the ball back with 2:37 left. A Tony Edwards receiving touchdown with 58 seconds left ended the game at 24-14 Warriors.
