WINONA, Minn. – WSU women's basketball struggled to get hot against Southeastern Oklahoma State early but would find a spark in the fourth quarter and shock the Savage Storm 63-60.
The Warriors started off cold shooting 0-14 from three in the first half and a 25.7 field goal percentage but would catch fire in the fourth quarter led by a double double outing from senior
Hailey Markworth.
How it Happened:
With a lot of new talent and new faces on the roster, Winona State struggled offensively to start the game. In the first quarter, the Warriors shot 0-5 from three and when 1-11 from the field. Limiting their turnovers in the second quarter allowed WSU to narrow the lead to 17-19 by the end of the half, with a buzzer beater by Markworth to end the half.
By midway through the third quarter, Winona State hit their first three pointer of the match lighting a spark as the Warriors would finish the quarter doubling their shooting percentage of the first half making the score 34-39. By the fourth quarter, WSU shot lights out from three shooting 66.7% and 53.7% from the field. WSU would win the contest 63-60.
