KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Winona State women's basketball delivered its most complete offensive performance of the season on Friday afternoon, using a dominant second and third quarter to surge past Truman State in an 89-64 road victory.
The Warriors shot a blistering 35-58 (60.3%) from the field and 13-28 (46.4%) from three, piling up 20 assists and 38 rebounds along the way. Senior Hailey Markworth led the charge with a game-high 21 points while WSU's depth again proved pivotal, generating 38 bench points.
How it Happened:
Winona State opened the afternoon in the back-and-forth first quarter, trading baskets early and trailing 20-16 after the opening frame. From there, the Warriors took complete control.
In the second quarter, WSU exploded for 24 points while holding Truman State to just eight. Markworth sparked the scoring with a smooth jumper, and a 10-2 WSU run midway through the period flipped the momentum entirely. Megan Johnson's tip-in and strong inside play helped the Warriors dominate in the paint as WSU entered halftime ahead 40-28.
The third quarter was even more decisive. The Warriors caught fire from deep, hitting five threes in the frame and shooting 11-17 overall. Markworth's early triple pushed the lead into double digits, and sharpshooting from Alayna Suprenand and Natalie Meaux extended the advantage. WSU outscored Truman State 27-15 in the period to take a commanding 67-43 lead.
With a comfortable margin entering the fourth quarter, Winona State continued to efficiently move the ball and execute offensively, sealing the 25-point victory.
