WINONA STATE COMES SHORT IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON CONTEST

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team lost in the final regular season contest on the road against St. Cloud State University 80-47. 
 
Leading the Warriors in scoring against SCSU was Olivia Gamoke with 13 points on 3-14 (21.4%) shooting from the field while also corralling two rebounds and two steals on the night.

Following the contest Winona State tied for 12th place in the Nothern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and lost the tiebreaker for the final spot in the NSIC Tournament.
 
How It Happened:
 
The Huskies scored first to start the contest with a jump shot from Jada Eggebrecht, assisted by Paige Lambe. Vivica Bretton got the scoring started for the Warriors around the six-minute mark with a layup. The first quarter remained close with SCSU increasing the scoring differential with a pull-up jump shot from Alana Zarneke assisted by Eggebrecht. The score at the end of the first quarter was SCSU 16, WSU 6.
 
Olivia Gamoke began the scoring to start the second quarter for the Warriors with a three-point shot assisted by Bretton, shortly after Eggebrecht would answer back for the Huskies with a jump shot assisted by Rachel Kottke. Under the five-minute mark, St. Cloud State would go on a 16-4 run to close out the second quarter. The score at the end of the first half was SCSU 43, WSU 21.
 
The Warriors started the second half fast, scoring within the first 45 seconds of the third quarter with a jump shot from Hailey Markworth. Winona State's perfect shooting from the free-throw line and 2-8 (25%) from beyond the arc in the quarter helped inch back into the scoring deficit. Going into the final quarter of the contest the score was SCSU 61, WSU 35.
 
Much like the third quarter, the Warriors began the fourth off fast, scoring within the first 10 seconds of the quarter with a three-pointer from Gamoke. Winona State made a late push to decrease the scoring differential with a layup from Paige Peaslee, assisted by Emma Kilpatrick, but the St. Cloud State lead proved to be insurmountable. The final score of the contest was SCSU 80, WSU 47.
 
Individual Leaders:
  • Gamoke led the Warriors in scoring with 13 points and in steals with two.
  • Sadie Jarmolowicz and Stephanie Dasbach led WSU in rebounds with five each.
  • Bretton led Winona State in assists with two.
  • Dasbach led the Warriors in blocks with one.
  • Eggebrecht led the Huskies in scoring with 19 points.
Team Comparison:
  • Winona State went 16-58 (27.6%) from the field, while St. Cloud State went 33-64 (51.6%).
  • SCSU went 9-19 (47.4%) from beyond the arc, while WSU went 5-24 (20.8%).
