WINONA, Minn. – With today's win over Wayne State, head softball coach
Greg Jones earned his 1,000th career victory.
Jones becomes the 14th coach in history to reach 1,000 NCAA Division II career wins, and just the eighth active coach to have 1,000 NCAA DII career wins. Jones is fourth all-time among 1,000-win coaches at the DII level with a .741 win percentage.
Since his first year with the Warriors in 2001, Jones has led Winona State to 30+ wins in every full season and has held at least a .600 win percentage in all 25 seasons on his career. WSU has 10 40-win seasons and three 50-win seasons with Jones at the helm.
Under Jones, the Warriors have reached the NCAA Tournament 15 times and have won five NSIC Regular Season championships (2003, 2005, 2007, 2018, 2019) and six NSIC Tournament championships (2003, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2018). The Warriors reached the NCAA Division II World Series in 2009.
Jones has been named the NSIC Coach of the Year on four occasions (2003, 2005, 2018, 2019) and the WSU softball staff was honored as the 2009 NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
