EAGAN, Minn. – Winona State opened the 2025 season with a 35-7 loss against Minnesota Duluth in the first ever collegiate football game at TCO Stadium.
Minnesota Duluth jumped out to a 14-0 lead just 4:36 into the game and controlled the second half to hand WSU a season-opening loss.
How it Happened:
UMD received the opening kickoff and went on a seven play, 60-yard drive capped off by a touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, WSU muffed the return and gave the Bulldogs the ball in Winona State's redzone. Minnesota Duluth added another score just two plays later to extend their lead to 14-0.
Winona State found the endzone one play into the second quarter after going on an eight play, 79-yard drive, capped off by a
Josh Buri run, to bring the game within one score. After exchanging punts, Minnesota Duluth scored on a 64-yard pass late in the first half and took a 21-7 lead into halftime.
It was all Bulldogs in the second half, as they outgained WSU 187-48 yards and scored two more touchdowns to secure a 35-7 victory.
