WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University men's and women's cross country teams continue their 2025 fall campaign on Friday, Sept. 19th at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
The 39th annual University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational will see the Jo Rider Men's Maroon Race at 11:30am and the Suzy Wilson Women's Maroon Race at 12:15pm. The men's race will be 8,000 meters and the women's race will be 6,000 meters.
After Friday's meet at the University of Minnesota for the Roy Griak Invitational travel to Missouri Western State for the Griffon Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4th.
Women's Cross Country Notes:
- The Warriors finished first out of nine teams at the Vic Godfrey Open.
- Kylie Anderson finished fifth with a time of 14:28.8 in the 4K.
- Stella Rusch finished sixth with a time of 14:46.9.
- Ella Voit and Kelsey Young both broke 15:00, and Alli McCaughtry rounded out the Warriors top five finishers.
- The first place finish was the fifth straight year in a row the Warriors won their season opener.
Men's Cross Country Notes:
- The Warriors finished fourth out of eight teams at the Vic Godfrey Open.
- Mitchell Johnstone led the Warriors with a 15th overall finish.
- Robert Spain was close behind with an 18th place finish.
- Jacob Lanzara, Calvin Redeker, and Wyatt Harmoning all rounded out the Warriors top five finishers.
- The fourth place finish was the best result for a season opener for the Warriors since 2022.
