MADISON, Wis. – Winona State gymnasts
Kaylee Bateman and
Frankie Jo MacAskill swept the WIAC Gymnastics Athlete of the Week awards after impressive outings this weekend.
Bateman, a senior from Arden Hills, Minn., led the Winona State bars squad with a 9.800 in the dual vs. NCAA DI Air Force on Friday, January 9th to earn Specialist Gymnast of the Week. Bateman's mark was not only an individual best, but it also tied the Winona State program record on the bars.
MacAskill, a freshman from Denver, Colo., led the Warriors on the vault (9.725) and on the floor (9.800) in their meet against Air Force to earn Muli-Event Gymnast of the Week. Both scores notched career-highs for the freshman, who competed in three events on Friday.
The Warriors have notched two top 10 all-time team scores in program history so far this season, most recently with a 190.025 at Air Force. Winona State looks to host their home-opener on Friday, January 16th against UW-Eau Claire and Gustavus for Winona Community Night.
