Warriors Dominate Golden Eagles in Three-Set Sweep

CROOKSTON, Minn. --- The Winona State volleyball team earned a convincing 3-0 sweep of Minnesota Crookston on Friday evening at Lysaker Gymnasium, winning the sets 25-18, 25-22 and 25-9.
 
The Warriors improved to 3-13 overall and 2-8 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play, while Minnesota Crookston fell to 3-15 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
 
Zoe Haan led Winona State with nine kills on 26 attacks, hitting .308 for the match. Abby Ongna added eight kills while hitting .571, and Maddie Brown contributed five kills. Hailee Peters paced the offense with 15 assists and added four service aces. Lily Shields led the defensive effort with 12 digs.
 
Winona State opened the match with a competitive first set before pulling away late. The teams battled through the set with a 15-15 tie before the Warriors scored five consecutive points to take a 20-15 lead. Winona State maintained control down the stretch and closed the set 25-18 to take an early match advantage.
 
The Warriors carried that momentum into the second set, building an early advantage, before Minnesota Crookston rallied to tie the score at 18-18. The Golden Eagles briefly moved ahead 19-18, but Winona State responded and regained control. The Warriors pulled away late, with a kill from Haan and a final point from Callie Carr securing a 25-22 win and a 2-0 match lead.

Winona State delivered its strongest performance in the third set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead and continuing to build its advantage. The Warriors stretched the margin to 10-4 before using a strong serving and defensive effort to keep Minnesota Crookston off balance. Winona State limited the Golden Eagles to three kills and forced 11 attack errors in the set, closing out the sweep with a dominant 25-9 victory.
