Box Score 3 WINONA, Minn. – The Warrior women's softball team went undefeated in Shawnee, Kan. at the Midwest College Classic
The Winona State Warriors won against Missouri Western State 6-0, then went on to defeat Quincy University 12-5. To finish the weekend, WSU took down Fort Hays with ease 11-0 and #23 ranked Pittsburgh State, 8-4.
Game One: WSU (6) – MWSU (0)
The Warriors were led by a pitching shutout from
Izzy Howe who improved her record to 6-0 and recorded 14 strikeouts with zero runs and only three hits. On the offensive side, WSU scored in the second inning from a RBI double on the account of Ashley Chantos with
Hannah Soderbeck scoring. Chantos reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning by scoring
Jenna James and making the score 2-0, Warriors. It was all WSU in the fifth with
Indigo Fish singling to center,
Lila McNeill scoring on a passed ball and
Braelee Jodarski hitting a two RBI single to left field making the score 6-0 WSU which would ultimately be the final score.
Game Two: WSU (12) – QU (5)
After four innings, WSU had already established their dominance against Quincy University. In the bottom of the third, McNeill gathered an RBI single to kick off the game and
Ava Smith hit a home run to center field scoring three and giving Winona State a 6-0 lead going into the fourth. Winona State would feed off the energy in the third and hit tow more home runs from
Bryn Elsenpeter and Fish that would score three more Warrior runs. In the sixth inning, the next WSU run would score with
Taylor Bloohm hitting an RBI double and
Nicole Weinberger with a two RBI single. WSU would win the match 12-5.
Game Three: WSU (11) – FHSU (0)
To start against Fort Hays State, Elsenpeter set the tone with a solo shot homerun giving WSU a 1-0 lead early. Winona State would shut out FHSU the rest of the game and would score off a
Alyssa Woelfel RBI, Elsenpeter double, Fish triple, Soderbeck fielders' choice and Jodarski home run in the third inning making the score 9-0.
Ava Smith would hit a homerun of her own in the fifth inning giving Winona State an 11-0 win.
Game Four: WSU (8) – # 23 PSU (4)
Elsenpeter started the Winona State offense with a solo shot in the first inning. WSU would capitalize on
Tiegan Mancuso in the second and third innings with a bunt and base knock scoring two and making the overall score 3-1 Winona State. Pittsburgh State would tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth 4-4 but WSU had the answer. Chantos would hit a homerun in the top of the last inning for insurance runs and giving the Warriors a 8-4 run lead. Winona State would finish their stint in Kansas with a 8-4 win over Pittsburgh State.
Winona State is in action next on Friday, March 6th at 9:00am CST as they travel to Viera, Fla. to kick off Spring Break against the University of Charleston.
