WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State gymnastics team hits the road this week to Whitewater, Wis. to take on the UW-Whitewater Warhawks. The meet starts at 4pm on Saturday, February 7th.
The Warriors are currently ranked 5th in Division III with a season average score of 189.495, while the Warhawks sit in 3rd place with a season average score of 191.875.
Winona State notes:
- The Warriors are coming off a winning weekend against the Simpson College Storm with a team score of 188.500 to the Storm's 187.425.
- WSU started the year with a record breaking bars routine scoring a 48.200.
- Frankie Jo MacAskill was another staple in the Warrior's vault and floor lineups with a 9.500 on vault and a 9.675 on the floor. MacAskill has sat five meets in a row with a score of 9.650 or higher on the floor.
- Gabby Kraft tallied two impressive scores of a 9.700 on floor and a 9.750 on beam. She was the event champion on the floor exercise. This is Kraft's second week in a row with a 9.700 on floor.
- The Warriors have had an impressive lineup of Kaylee Bateman, Kaelyn Duman, and MacAskill, earning all WIAC awards this season.
UW-Whitewater Notes:
- UW-Whitewater topped Gustavus 191.875 to 183.950 in their home opener.
- The uneven bars team swept the top five spots on the leaderboard with their highest score being a 9.750 from Paige Magel.
- Juliette Rider posted a 9.775 in the vault.
- The floor team swept the top six spots led by Danielle Dudziak, Avery Friend, and Jane Heffernan sharing first place with a 9.625
