WARRIOR BASEBALL DROPS BOTH AGAINST UMARY

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State baseball dropped both games in today's home-opening twin bill against the University of Mary.

Game 1: UMary (5) – WSU (2)
The Marauders struck first, scoring one run in each of the first and third innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead through three. UMary then scored three runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead with two frames to go.

The Warriors strung together a last-chance rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two unearned runs on a hit to right field by Christian Varsho. WSU's rally came up short and suffered the 5-2 loss in game one.

WSU gathered two hits and a pair of walks in the game, with Varsho and Dylan Harer collecting one hit a piece. Sawyer Hoffman took the loss, going 4.2 innings and allowing five runs on 10 hits. Carson Jones pitched 2.1 effective innings in relief, striking out two and allowing a pair of hits.

Game 2: UMary (17) – WSU (1)
It was all UMary in the second game as they scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. The Marauders tallied four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and eight in the sixth to earn a 17-1 run-rule victory.

Klayton Hawkins hit a solo home run to dead center in the seventh to give WSU their only run for the game. The Warriors garnered three hits during the contest as Hawkins, Jack Funke, and Connor Greuel each had a hit. Six Warriors saw time on the mound as Eli Babler took the loss as the starter for WSU.

Winona State will finish their series the Marauders tomorrow, with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12:00pm in Winona, Minn.
