BASEBALL
BU (11) – WSU (6)
Winona State struck first against Barry University, scoring three runs in the top of the second.
Cal Casper tripled to center field to score
Ethan Patterson and
Boone Kirst, then Casper came around to score later in the inning. Barry tallied one in the third before WSU got it right back after a wild pitch plated a run. Barry ensued to score seven runs in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead and continued to hang on for an 11-6 win.
Nathan Vela got the start on the bump, going 3.2 innings but taking the loss.
Brayden Deering pitched 4.0 innings in relief, striking out four batters. Casper and
Easton Arendt each grabbed two hits in the game to lead the Warrior offense.
NSU (3) – WSU (1)
Winona State was unable to salvage a split on their second day of Spring Break, falling 3-1 to Nova Southeastern. Winona State's lone run came on a
Josh Hatano in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. Nova Southeastern added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to hang on for the close win.
Adam Wall tallied two hits for the Warrior offense as just four WSU batters collected hits off the NSU pitchers.
Sawyer Hoffman took the loss for Winona State, going 6.1 innings and allowing three runs while striking out 10 opponents.
SOFTBALL
UF (2) – WSU (1)
Winona State softball took an early 1-0 lead against Findlay after
Indigo Fish plated
Alyssa Woelfel on a sacrifice fly. Findlay answered back in the second inning with a pair of runs and neither offense was able to capitalize as the game ended in Findlay's favor, 2-1.
Izzy Howe started and took the loss, pitching a pair of innings.
Jayda Berg came in the game and pitched 4.0 innings allowing just one hit. The WSU offense mustered five hits, led by two from Woelfel.
WSU (4) – WU (0)
In a defensive battle, Winona State and Walsh University were in a 0-0 deadlock through 4.5 innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Winona State exploded for four runs, sparked by a
Jaden Johnson triple with two outs.
Braelee Jodarski,
Tiegan Mancuso, Woelfel,
Bryn Elsenpeter, and Lila McNiell each reached base to tally four runs for the Warriors.
Izzy Howe, who collected the win in the circle, didn't give Walsh any hope and secured the win for WSU.
Howe struckout nine batters and allowed just four hits in the complete game. Six different Warriors tallied hits while four different WSU batters collected an RBI.
