INDIANAPOLIS, Minn. – The first edition of the NCAA Division II softball regional rankings was released with WSU under consideration in the central region. Schools will be listed as under consideration in alphabetical order for the first ranking of the season.
The Warriors are currently 40-7 overall with a 19-3 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Winona State heads to Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. NSIC opponent St. Cloud State was also a member of the regional rankings list.
The 40-team NCAA Central Region is made up of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC). Automatic bids are awarded to the tournament champions from each conference with the final five spots awarded on an at-large basis.
The championship provides for a field of 64 teams. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in a double elimination tournament. The 16 teams advancing from regional competition will participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites. The finals will include the eight super regional winners. www.NCAA.com on Monday, May 11. The NCAA Championships are set for May 28 to June 3 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The
NSIC Softball Tournament is set for May 6-9 at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; hosted by Augustana University. The top-ten teams in the NSIC standings will participate in the single elimination tournament.
