WINONA STATE ANNOUNCES MATT HOKANSON AS HEAD TENNIS COACH

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State University has named Matt Hokanson as the Head Women's Tennis Coach. Hokanson will also serve as the WATA (Winona Area Tennis & Pickleball Association) Director of Racquet Sports.
 
In a joint role with WSU and the Winona community, Hokanson will serve as the head coach for the Winona State women's tennis program while leading all tennis and pickleball programming and instruction at WATA.
 
"I am thrilled to welcome Matt Hokanson to Winona State to serve as our Head Women's Tennis Coach," noted WSU Director of Athletics Jen Flowers. "Our WSU tennis community and the broader Winona tennis community are going to thrive under Matt's leadership. He brings a tremendous background to the position and will be an asset. I am thankful to WATA for their support in making this position a reality and I look forward to working with Matt."

Bill Drazkowski, board member at WATA added, "the Winona Area Tennis Association is so excited to welcome Matt to our community. To be able to partner with Winona State and bring in a person of Matt's character and talent to develop, lead and enhance our youth and adult programming is an incredible opportunity. This truly kicks off a new era of tennis for our area."
 
The former NCAA Division I tennis athlete at the University of North Dakota most recently served as a tennis professional at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D. Prior, Hokanson served as head coach at Minnesota State University, Mankato and led the women's tennis program to a runner-up finish in the NSIC during the 2024-2025 season.

"I'm super excited and so thankful for the opportunity to lead the tennis program at Winona State University," remarked Hokanson. "I'm looking forward to starting the process of bringing Winona State back to contending for NSIC championships."
