WINONA, Minn – The Winona State volleyball team prepares to compete in the Seaside Invitational on September 3rd-5th in San Diego, Calif.
The Warriors will face Colorado Christian University on Thursday, September 3rd at 3:00pm CST. They will then take on host Point Loma Nazarene on Friday, September 4th at 8:00 pm CST. WSU's last match of the invitational will be against Dallas Baptist University on Saturday, September 5th at 1:00pm CST.
Winona State Notes:
- The Warriors are starting the season with a 1-2 overall record after the UP Open.
- Tricia Melfy collected her first win as the Warriors coach with their 3-0 win over Tiffin University.
- Abby Ongna leads the team with 31 kills after the UP Open while also being top ten in points per set in the NSIC.
- Hailee Peters leads the Warriors team with 65 assists.
- Sophomore Lily Shields leads the team with 35 digs.
Colorado Christian University Notes:
- The Cougars are starting their season 2-1 after the Oredigger Classic.
- Bobby Blanken is entering his tenth year as Colorado Christian's Head Coach.
- Sophomore Sienna Thatcher leads the Cougars in total kills with 40 and an average ok 2.86 Kills/Set.
Point Loma Nazarene Notes:
- The Sea Lions start their season at 1-2 after the CWU Invitational.
- Jonathan Scott is starting his thirteenth year with Point Loma with a 212-115 record.
- Last year, Scott led the team to the NCAA Division II semifinals.
- Senior Sophia Baugh leads the Cougars with 106 assists and 9.64 Assist/Set.
Dallas Baptist Notes:
- The Patriots opened their 2026 season 3-1 at the Dallas Classic, beating Biola and Colorado Mesa but losing to #7 Nebraska-Kearney.
- Senior Karly Wells leads the team with 53 kills, and 57.5 points.
- Jordan Fish is in her sixth season as the Head Volleyball Coach at DBU, joining the program in 2021, and winning 2023 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year.
- DBU went to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2022-2024 and saw a historic 2023 season that saw the Patriots win their first-ever Lone Star Conference regular-season championship
Winona State will return home for the first NSIC weekend of the year as they host Sioux Falls and SMSU on Friday, September 11th and Saturday, September 12th.
