Winona State Falls on the Road 2-0 to Minot State

MINOT, N.D. --- The Winona State soccer team battled Minot State throughout Friday afternoon before falling 2-0 to the Beavers at Herb Parker Stadium.
 
The Warriors fell to 0-5 (0-3 NSIC) with the loss, while Minot State improved to 2-4 (1-2 NSIC) on the season. Madison Barnick led Winona State with three shots, all of which were on goal. Jacey Sturek and Faith Quinn each added one shot.
 
The Beavers held an 11-5 advantage in shots and recorded four saves compared to three for the Warriors. Minot State also held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Winona State looked to strike first, with Quinn and Barnick each recording shots around the 20-minute mark of the first half. Minot State broke through at the 24:13 mark when Adriana Gonzalez found the back of the net to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
 
Sturek and Barnick each put a shot on goal toward the center of the net at the 27-minute mark, but Minot State goalkeeper Rebecca Sargent made both saves to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard.
 
The Beavers controlled possession early in the second half, holding Winona State without a shot for the first 25 minutes of the period. Minot State added to its lead at the 78:57 mark to make it 2-0.
 
Winona State continued to look for an offensive opportunity late in the match. With eight minutes remaining, Barnick put another shot on goal toward the right side of the net, but Sargent made the save to preserve the Beavers' shutout.
