BISMARCK, N.D. --- The Winona State soccer team battled the University of Mary
on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 to the Marauders.
The Warriors fell to 0-6 (0-4 NSIC) with the loss, while the Marauders improved to 3-4(2-2 NSIC) on the season.
Umary held an 8-3 advantage in shots and had six corner kicks compared to Winona State's zero.
UMary's Chole Brand recorded the first shot of the game at the 15:56 mark, but it was blocked by Abigail rounds. Brand recorded the second shot that missed left of the goal just seven minutes later.
The Marauders took the 1-0 advantage at the 38:52 mark on a goal from Dina Polanco. WSU's
Madison Barnick attempted to strike back four minutes later, but missed right of the goal.
Both teams were back and forth early in the second half, with the beavers maintaining the 1-0 lead. Maggie Bono missed high at the 59:15 minute mark, shortly after,
Romy Olson attempted to tie the game and missed left of the goal.
WSU continued battling late through the second half searching for offense. After Umary's Alex Guinn missed high left at the 79:07 mark, Winona State's
Kyleigh Jannisch attempted to level the score but missed high right.
Winona State continued to search for an equalizer but were unable to find the back of the net and Umary held onto the 1-0 lead for the victory.
