WINONA, MINN. --- The Winona State soccer team battled Wayne State on Friday afternoon, falling 3-0 at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Warriors fell to 0-6 (0-4 NSIC) with the loss, while the Wildcats improved to 3-4 (2-2 NSIC) on the season.
Winona State held an 13-6 advantage in shots and recorded two corner kicks compared to Wayne State's zero.
Winona State's offense looked to get its offense started early with a shot by
Sam Perez at the 3:49 mark but was saved by Alexa Hoffstetter.
Madison Barnick looked to find the back of the net shortly after Perez but missed high left. At the 14:20 mark,
Jacey Sturek took a shot for the Warriors but missed the goal high.
The Warriors and Wildcats continued to battle back and forth most of the closing minutes of the first half, before
Faith Quinn took a shot at the 39:21 mark that was saved by Hoffstetter. Kate Cox took the first shot for Wayne State at the 42:04 mark but missed high. Both teams could not find the back of the net before the end of the half, making it a scoreless game at the end of the first.
Wayne States' offense started off strong early in the second half with a goal from Taylor Woods at the 45:34 mark
, gaining a 1-0 advantage.
Kyleigh Jannisch looked to answer back for the Warriors at the 55:48 mark, but her shot was blocked. Shortly after at the 56:34 mark
, Barnick attempted a shot that the Wildcats saved.
The Wildcats offense kept attacking early in the second half with Morgan Mancuso scoring a goal at the 60:21 mark and Woods scoring her second goal at the 61:10 mark creating a 3-0 lead for Wayne State.
Winona State continued battling through the second half, looking to find an answer. Jannisch attempted a shot for WSU at the 64:03 mark that missed just left of the goal. Barnick also tried to answer back at the 67:04 mark but missed high.
Winona State continued to search for goal, but were unable to find an answer as WSU went on to pick up the 3-0 victory.
