WINONA, Minn --- The Winona State Volleyball fell in three sets to No. 5 Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday night at McCown Gymnasium.
The Warriors fell to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in NSIC play, while Concordia-St. Paul improved to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in NSIC play.
The Warriors fell behind 7-12 early in the first set and trailed 9-16 before calling their first timeout. Winona State recorded 10 kills, with three each from
Zoe Haan and
Abby Ongna, but Concordia-St. Paul closed out the first set 25-13.
The Warriors found themselves in trouble early in the second set, as they trailed 8-17 at the first timeout. Concordia-St. Paul's 14 kills led the Golden Bears to win the second set 14-25. CSP was led by Mehlayna Straub's 11 kills on a .524 hitting percentage in the set.
In the third set, Winona State kept close, only trailing 9-14 at the first timeout and 14-20 at the second. The Warriors battled back to trail by three at 18-21, before Concordia St. Paul would score four straight points to win the set 25-18.
CHECKING THE BOX SCORE
- Haan led the Warriors with 13 kills, hitting .367 and had 13.5 total points.
- Maddie Brown recorded the only two aces for WSU.
- Hailee Peters dished out 20 assists.
- Lily Shields led the team with seven digs.
- The Warriors finished with 31 kills, 29 assists, and two aces.
