MANKATO, Minn. — The Winona State volleyball team fell to Minnesota State, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Taylor Center, dropping the three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-20.
The Warriors battled throughout the match, finishing with more kills (46) and digs (63) than the Mavericks. Minnesota State capitalized on its advantages at the service line and net, recording six aces and seven blocks compared to Winona States's two aces and one block.
Winona State started strong offensively in the opening set, recording 12 kills while hitting .290. Minnesota State answered with 15 kills and used a late push to take the first set, 25-20.
The Warriors responded in the second set, producing 19 kills while hitting .341. Winona State kept the set competitive, but the Mavericks closed out the frame, 25-21, to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, Winona State again stayed within striking distance, but Minnesota State finished the match with a 25-20 victory. The Warriors recorded 15 kills in the set but were held to a .140 hitting percentage as the Mavericks secured the sweep.
